Throughout the 1990s, one ad campaign starring arguably the most recognised, and certainly most imitated, father-daughter duo gripped the nation – Renault’s Papa and Nicole.
This campaign had such an effect on UK culture that before the campaign began in ‘91, the name Nicole wasn’t even recorded in the top 200 girls names on the birth register. By the mid 90s, Nicole was the 36th most popular name given to newborn girls. Such was the cultural effect of the campaign that it inspired thousands of new parents to name their child after the campaign’s star.
So to launch Renault’s latest chapter in their story, the new Megane E-Tech, and timed to coincide with Fathers Day, we brought Papa and Nicole back and released a short documentary in which we heard from three real-life Papas and Nicoles about the unique bond shared by fathers and their daughters.
